Fire up your tone

Fender’s Custom Shop hand selected its tonewoods for the American Custom Stratocaster, opting for a less-expected ash body. Hearty and stable, the 2-piece body elicits a robust, vivid character alongside a bold midrange and tight, rich bass. Complementing this, the 1-piece 3A roasted flame maple neck and fretboard produce powerful projection, with a reflective voice of crisp highs through to warm lows. Expertly married, these two tonewoods balance each other around a sturdy midrange, with elements of warmth and tightness at either end of the spectrum, culminating in a distinctive sonic character just waiting to be explored.

Timeless construction, stable sound

The Fender Custom Shop chose a gorgeous 3A roasted flame maple wood for the American Custom Strat’s neck and fingerboard, and it’s easy to see why. A perfect all-arounder, maple is known for its paradoxically light weight, sturdy resolve, and resistance to warping and climate variation. The 10/56 “V” profile is great for anyone who lets their thumb hang out over the edge, paired with a 9.5-inch radius, providing exceptional access to all 22 narrow-tall (6105) frets without sacrificing comfort. Sperzel locking tuners shimmer with their pearloid buttons, bookending the strings opposite a Custom Shop vintage synchronized tremolo, which is ideal for pushing your expressive play to its outer limits.

Vintage voltage, modern sounds

Don’t let the single-ply gold anodized aluminum pickguard fool you: under the hood is vintage Fat ’50s wiring, connecting the 5-way blade switch to the Fender Custom Shop’s hand-wound pickups. These Fat ’64 single-coils are overwound to add some low-end heft to their crisp articulation, with beveled Alnico 2 magnets and a RW/RP middle pickup to eliminate hum at pickup positions 2 and 4. Throw the master volume and 2 tone controls into the mix, and you’ve got all the right tools to fine-tune your sound.
