Engineered with an innovative Performance X™ bracing pattern, the dreadnought body of the Fender California Vintage King is lightly crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid ovangkol back and sides to effortlessly produce a substantial, bass-filled voice with exceptional detail, projection and volume. An ergonomic modern “V” profile was chosen for the okoume neck along with a 25.5″ scale length for optimal sustain, and a tilt-back 6-in-line headstock with a maple headcap for a distinctive look born from Fender’s electric guitar DNA. Other notable details include a bound ovangkol fingerboard with pearloid block inlays for a throwback look, vintage-style tuning machines for smooth, accurate tuning, and a bone nut and saddle for superior harmonic character. Designed for the performer, the onboard Fishman® Presys VT Plus preamp system features seamless soundhole-mounted controls that blend an undersaddle piezo and internal body transducer to allow faithful and reliable reproduction of the guitar’s natural sound when plugged into an amplifier or recording device. The Fender King Vintage exemplifies all those lofty qualities, with a solid spruce top supported by solid ovangkol back and sides. Firstly, guitarists find that the King Vintage’s solid spruce top grants you a wonderfully touch-sensitive feel that blooms and resounds with everything from a slight pluck to a heavy-handed flatpick. A set of ovangkol back and sides complete the package, producing a tone somewhere in the middle of the rosewood/mahogany paradigm, with crisp highs, round lows, and a slightly less scooped sound in the mids compared to rosewood.

From headstock to end pin, the King Vintage is clearly inspired by the Fender acoustics of yesteryear. Case in point: this guitar’s okoume neck is shaped into a modern “V” profile that perfectly fills your grip with a subtle ridge in the center to place your thumb. However, it’s not a complete vintage callback — unlike many of the baseball-bat necks found on retro acoustics, the modern V profile seamlessly skates between the vintage and modern worlds with a slightly reduced heft, making it a much more comfortable choice for technically inclined guitarists. Lastly, the neck is finished off with a true bone nut, an ovangkol fingerboard to match the body, and an acoustic-guitar-standard 16-inch radius.
