In collaboration with legendary luthier Roger Rossmeisl, Leo released several unique acoustic models that embodied the character that made Fender a symbol of the rock-and-roll revolution, including unmistakable headstock shapes, easy-to-play neck profiles and radical styling, changing the face of Fender Acoustics forever. Today’s Fender California Vintage models draw directly from their mid-century origins with a retro visual vibe, adding 21st century performance and a rich, refined acoustic tone – a true modern alternative with classic Fender heritage.

Engineered with an innovative Performance X™ bracing pattern, the mid-size auditorium body of the Fender California Vintage Palomino is lightly crafted with a solid Sitka spruce top and solid ovangkol back and sides to effortlessly produce a versatile, articulate voice with exceptional detail, clarity and balance. An ergonomic modern “V” profile was chosen for the the okoume neck along with a 25.5″ scale length for optimal sustain, and a tilt-back 6-in-line headstock with a maple headcap for a distinctive look born from Fender’s electric guitar DNA. Other notable details include a bound ovangkol fingerboard with pearloid block inlays for a throwback look, vintage-style tuning machines for smooth, accurate tuning, and a bone nut and saddle for superior harmonic character. Designed for the performer, the onboard Fishman® Presys VT Plus preamp system features seamless soundhole-mounted controls that blend an undersaddle piezo and internal body transducer to allow faithful and reliable reproduction of the guitar’s natural sound when plugged into an amplifier or recording device. A vintage-style hardshell case is included.

Ovangkol back and sides support spruce with lasting sustain and a full-bodied tone that’s frequently compared to mahogany. These tonewoods pair well with the fine-tuned power, playability, and focus of an Auditorium body style. This retro neck style features a subtle ridge that gives your thumb better comfort and support. “V” necks were widespread when guitars were built with hand tools. Modern machinery made smoother shapes possible, but many players still value the extra grip and support the old-school “V” provides. The Fender Palomino Vintage’s okoume neck optimizes the “V”-shape neck to suit today’s players, and the result is a modern feel with just the right grip for accurate fretting.

Dual-source electronics

Developed by Fishman and Fender, the Sonitone Plus is a pickup/preamp combo that captures your acoustic’s sound in two places rather than just one. An under-saddle piezo captures all the snap and pluck of strings and surface frequencies, while an internal body transducer gathers important nuances within the sound chamber. The resulting tone is richer and more vibrant when plugging in. What’s more, the Sonitone Plus system protects good looks with controls placed discreetly within the soundhole, including a blend control for mixing the Sonitone Plus’ dual sources into something just right for you and your audience’s ears.
